6/7 Brown Bag Day

Brown Bag volunteersBrown Bags provide nourishing food to folks on the streets.

Friday, June 7, 9:00 AM-12:30 PM.
Meet at the Friends Meeting House, 4312 SE Stark, to prepare more than 100 meals. Then we’ll head out in teams to distribute lunches to folks under the bridges, on streets, and in downtown parks.

Volunteers are welcome! Let us know if you can lend a hand. Qualifications: A caring heart and a few hours to share.

Every Brown Bag lunch provides someone a good meal, with a hearty deli-style sandwich, fruit, a A Brown Bag lunchhardboiled egg, cookies, other munchies, and in cooler weather, hot homemade soups.

Home-baked cookies, brownies, and soups are welcome! We welcome your support.  The more food and volunteers we have, the more people we can serve on Brown Bag days.

DONATE!  Please click here to give.  Just $10 provides 5 hearty meals, prepared with care and offered with friendship. $50 will provide lunch to 25 people! Living Earth is not supported by corporate donors or foundations, so your gift makes a difference. Whether you give funds or prepare home-baked treats, your donation helps feed people

Other ways to help:  You can help by soliciting food donations or gift cards from grocers where you shop. Ask friends or local businesses to donate in support this project. Any way you can help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Homeless folks face hunger daily, and low-income people usually have very little to eat. People without homes or jobs have little guarantee of a “next” meal. And working folks often skip meals so their kids can have food. Everyone deserves a decent meal, and while our program is small, every lunch we make makes a difference for someone.

We will meet at 9:00 am Fri. Dec. 14 at the Friends Meeting House, 4312 SE Stark, to prepare sandwiches and lunches for about 100 people, then go out on the streets to distribute them. Some volunteers make pots of soup and bring it to heat up while we prepare the lunches. We have some hot thermos-type containers so it stays hot to serve as we go. It’s helpful to know if folks plan to bring anything, so we can balance out what goes in the lunches. Our experience is that the majority of the folks we serve are not vegetarians, though occasionally some are. Some of our lunches have PBJ instead of deli=type sandwiches, and the lunches include fruit, cookies, and other munchies usually. Does that answer your questions?

  2. I plan to come Friday morning about 9am to help with lunch prep.
I’m baking cookies and brownies to donate.
    Looking forward to helping.

I’d like to come help with preparation and handing out April 12. Do you still have a need for that Betsy?

    • betsy.toll says:

You bet, Cathy. We’d love to have you join us! We’ll be at the Meeting House starting at 9:00 am, preparing lunches. Then at about 11 we head out in small teams to offer the lunches to hungry folks.

  4. Eileen Hawes says:

HI Betsy, I plan on coming over at 9am to help with lunches on April 12. I’d love to say hello to everyone again, and Fridays I’m available. Do you need anything? I could bake cookies- Eileen

Hooray! Yes, cookies are wonderful, and always much appreciated. It will be great to see you, other than when you’re at work or on fb xoxo
