Every Monday evening, we open with simple chanting followed by reflection and silent sitting and moving meditation, and then close with words from the world’s mystic poets. The structure is fluid and responsive to those in the circle. Guided by the world’s non-dual wisdom traditions, we follow the breath within the breath into the boundless field of the heart.
Mondays 6:30-8:30 pm
Friends Meeting House
4312 SE Stark, Portland
6:30 – Chanting
7:30 – Dharma talk and meditation
We bow to Neem Karoli Baba, Ramana Maharshi, the Buddha, and others, grateful for the insights of numerous teachers, gurus, saints, and adepts of many traditions.
This circle embraces sanatana dharma. Like the Perennial Philosophy, sanatana dharma holds that no single tradition, teacher, or spiritual path is the “only” path. We treasure the footprints left by so many who have traveled this landscape before us, knowing that each of us ultimately must find our own way. We welcome friendship and company on the journey.
The room is carpeted, and chairs and a few cushions are provided. Feel free to bring your own cushion, blanket, or whatever is comfortable for you.
Living Earth’s dharma circle embraces human nature just as it is: holy and broken, perfect and imperfect, weird and wonderful, all at the same time. Gathering this way, the rich common ground beneath our feet supports us all as we explore the boundless terrain of the heart.
This simple satsang is open to folks of all faiths, contemplative practices, and levels of experience, or no experience. Long-time meditators and first-timers, the devout and non-believers, the curious and the unsure all are invited to sit, rest, pray, practice, even doze if you need to, in this circle. In the spirit of dana, donations are appreciated but not required.
