Democracy activist Paul Cienfuegos will offer this workshop on the rights of “We the People,” followed by a potluck supper. See below to register.
Paul will summarize the 200-year history of “corporate personhood” and the cultural myths surrounding it. And he’ll present
strategies and tactics currently being used by more than 100 cities across the country that are regaining control over corporate activities and asserting the people’s power to determine community values and goals.
Portland has the potential to move a community rights campaign forward. Pittsburgh, PA recently enacted a Citizen’s Bill of Rights, the largest US city to reject corporate rights by enacting a legally-binding city ordinance banning specific corporate activities in the city limits.
The workshop will help identify issues and strategies that can enable Portland to enact ordinances that place living, breathing, loving, laughing human beings in control of our communities and our future.
Bring a veg/vegan dish for a potluck supper following the workshop. Even if you can’t make it to the workshop, come join us for dinner and conversation from 6:30-8:00 pm.
Your donation helps pay our presenter and space rental.
Advance registration is encouraged!
